We all know the Met Gala as an upscale, exclusive event with incredible art direction and serious theme adherence. I wanted to explore the idea of a more inclusive version of an event at this scale, so I made the Hyperopop Met Gala.
Informed by a branch of the techno-pop genre pioneered by trans women, I pictured what the Met Gala might look like as an accessible, LGBTQ+ centered space, and I ran with it. I mixed metallic textures, gradients, and fluorescent colors to achieve the genre’s hallmark look in the form of promotional posters, invitations, social media posts, and even a free-to-take vinyl record to be distributed at the event.
